Over "walking 2 miles, 'cause it's fun" to Times Square, Lisa and I came up with the following parody concept:

Duffy the Human Slayer. Duffy, a gay vampire, is a fabled hero, appointed to deal with threats to the peaceful vampire community, as he attends night school. As well as his friends, his help included his blond, cute boyfriend, a human who only appears in the mysterious hours near the dawn, and warns of evil priests trying to bring about the Rapture.

In the 1940s, would he have admitted it? Hm, more to the point, in the 1940s, would a radio show have gay characters? If so, what's the language used to get that information across?

There are certain veiled codes or flags that are used in media of the 1930s and 1940s to indicate just this.

For an example you may have heard of in a film of the same era, Joel Cairo in "The Maltese Falcon" makes use of perfumed hankerchiefes.

There is another example in the same movie, where the young gunman in the same movie employed by Mr. Gutman isn't called a gunman, but is a 'gunsel' which is prison slang for a catamite.

Right, I knew about the gunsel bit.

If Duffy's voice isn't even heard, I'm not sure how one would convey the perfumed handkerchiefs.
