Well, it still sucks, but it could have been a lot worse.

The only things they seem to have taken are [livejournal.com profile] drcpunk's laptop (the big item), smallish amounts of cash, two electronic items we weren't using.

And, of course, the integrity of our door (they split off the first 6-8 inches of it, along most of its length!) and the sanctity of our home.

The cops have been by, we -still- don't have an intact door, but we seem to be past the more basic "duty" part of things.

Thanks to all for the well-wishes and expressions of sympathy!

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully, everything you lost (even the non material things) can be replaced.

My condolences to the both of you, as a former burglary victim myself (1986 in New Orleans). At least neither of you are hurt; material things can be replaced. Here's hoping New York's Finest can track down the bastiches.

*hugs* I am so sorry. If you need a place to stay, you can definitely crash on the sofa bed.

I am so glad that you have renters insurance, that will help a lot. Still, if you need anything, let me know.

I'm sorry to hear this. :( Glad it was not worse, but I wish it hadn't happened at all. Take care.

Oh no!

What will you do before the door is fixed?

Thank God no one was home when it happened ...

I am reading my FList backwards as usual so read [personal profile] drcpunk's entry first. This is a shitty piece of news (although full drama points to you both for the door - how wierd!).

I am so sorry to hear about this! I'm glad it wasn't worse, and that you're both OK, but sad that you have to deal with this at all.

I hope you'll have an intact door soon, and that your peace of mind will likewise be restored.

*Hugs* to you both.

UGH! The feeling of violation alone is horror enough.

I hope you can get past this as quickly as possible. I've been there, and it's ugly. It does subside, though.

That's crappy news. I'm sorry for you both and I hope you get things sorted out soon. I'm glad you were out at the time; it's a bad feeling to know your home has been broken into, and worse if you're actually there at the time.

I'm glad to hear it wasn't worse. THis is bad enough and all "things" that are easily replaced. Hugs.

Ya know...

That bites. You seem to have some of the most rotten luck when it comes to this kind of thing. Good thing you two are OK.

Maybe it's time to invest in an electric fence, or something.
(Yeah, I know, it's an apartment. There has to be a way to make it work, though! :) )

Still, how horrible!

Hopefully insurance will cover the tangible losses, but the intangible losses must be so much worse...
