This is a microsoft (vb script) worm, which is capable of getting into a Windows system via Microsoft Explorer or Outlook (or OE) without user intervention, so there's no blame attached aside from their not keeping their system up to date or having better virus protection on it; that it was appearing to have infected acrobatty's section of the system seems to most have been how it perpetuated itself.
