The thing is, the SCA isn't really about authentically recreating the middle ages. It's about recreating what the middle ages *should* have been like; the chivalry, without actually killing people. The pageantry of the nobility, without anyone having to be downtrodden serfs. The home made food, beer, mead, and so on, but with proper sanitation and refrigeration. You're supposed to be as authentic as possible, without sacrificing too much comfort, safety, or modern morality or law.

By the way, mnemex, are you going to Pennsic? If so, where are you camping? This will be my first Pennsic, which I'm pretty excited about.
