Emily liked her paws contentedly.

It had been a harrowing bit of Errantry, requiring her, toward the end,
to bathe in a magical pool -- something no cat, even a wizard, should be
required to do -- but the Lone Power had been defeated once again.

"I want to go home now, please."

Francis, her French contact, frowned. "It's not that easy."

"What?"

"It's your magical 'bath'. You're still highly charged, and will be
for months. Sending you through the Gate network would damage it, and
you still probably wouldn't get where you're going."

"But how can I get home! My family will miss me!"

Emily's been getting a lot of airtime in Milwaukee, of course. We were speculating last night as to whether she'd gotten a bit dehydrated during her trip out (unless the mice on shipboard were really juicy).
