2) I believe that the integrity of Hugo Awards are more important than holding them for any given year. We've skipped Hugo Awards in previous years; there is precedent. I suggest that when it's going to be impossible to hold the Hugos without corruption (as with Chengdu), those who are able should resign immediately upon realization, rather than go with some "the show must go on!" mentality. Sham Hugos were far worse than no Hugos at all would have been, for the voters, the nominees (actual and publicized), the winners*, the fans, and in the end, everyone on the Chengdu awards and convention committees.
