I don't know the original, but it has possibilities. From your description, I don't see what the non-traitors do except wait to be fired. There's an implication that non-traitors can remove traitors, but I think you left out (or assumed that people who play Mafia would understand) how this happens.

Of course, the idea of "trump cards" came to me too.
