I'll be doing some field recording with an Intel MacBook; think I'll dual-boot with Ubuntu. I was lucky the last time I used Audacity on it, but it doesn't look as though it's a good thing to count on.
Depending on the nature of the crash and what you did afterward, it's often possible to resurrect most of a crashed Audacity session -- it records in 1MB blocks which get left in the temp directory when it crashes.
